Description

Guðrún Óskarsdóttir graduated from the Icelandic Ballet School in 2003. The following year she matriculated from Kvennaskólinn in Reykjavík/Iceland and received a diploma from the Royal Swedish Ballet School (Stockholm/Sweden). Guðrún completed an internship with the Iceland Dance Company in 2004-2005 and continued performing with the company throughout 2006.

Whilst performing with the Iceland Dance Company Guðrún was able to work with choreographers such as Rami Be’er, Didy Veldman, Stephen Shropshire, Rui Horta, Johann Freyr Björgvinsson and Helena Jónsdóttir, and she also took part in projects with DanceTheater, Nordic Music Days, Reykjavík Dance Festival and himherandit.productions.

From January to April 2007, Guðrún completed an internship with Dansk Danseteater in Copenhagen, Denmark. She also took part in creating and performing "Moment Seen" as a member of the Samyrkjar dance group, which was a collaboration with Hitt Húsið (culture centre for young people, run by the Youth and Sports Council of Reykjavík City). "Moment seen" was also performed in Sweden later that summer.

Guðrún founded the Darí Darí dance company with two other dancers in the fall of 2007. The company has created four dance pieces: „Hoppala“ in 2008 at the Nordic House in Iceland, „Gibbla Yggdrasils“ in 2009 as a work-in-progress at 108 Prototype, „Marbara“ at the Reykjavik Dance Festival in 2009 and „Gibbla“ in 2011. Gibbla was a collaboration between dancers, composers and a film maker, and resulted in a full length dance piece and a 10 minute short-film.

In 2008, Darí Darí dance company composed a piece in collaboration with the Iceland Dance Company, presenting and discussing contemporary dance to young learners (12 – 16 years) and performing in elementary schools (6 – 16 years). From 2008 to 2009 she also worked with choreographers Auður Bjarnadóttir, Guðmundur Helgason and Peter Anderson, amongst others.

In September 2009 Guðrún moved to Amsterdam where she participated in a research project with Amy Raymond. In March through December 2010 she was part of de Kiss Moves and performed “Shut up and Dance”, “Vivaldi Rocks” and “It will be” with choreographers Dorottya Kiss and Keren Rosenberg. During summer 2010, Guðrún also worked with choreographer Miikka Ryytty and photographer Samuel Hense on their third and final episode of their dance film “The Memory of Skin”.

In Fall 2011 Guðrún premiered “> a flock of us >“ with Keren Rosenberg as part of Reykjavik Dance Festival at the National Art Museum in Reykjavik.

Guðrún served as cashier to the Icelandic Association of Professional Dancers in 2008 - 2009 and is the web administrator for their web page, dance.is. She currently lives in Seattle and is exploring the Seattle dance scene, as well as taking project management certification at the University of Washington.
